We’ll update with the media coverage later. In the meantime, you can read Governor Bill Owens’ prepared remarks here.
UPDATE: From The Rocky Mountain News:
Gov. Bill Owens, in his last state-of-the-state address, today told the Colorado Legislature that the state is on the road to financial recovery. “As we look forward to a year filled with hope and opportunity, I can tell you without hesitation that Colorado’s economy is strong and it’s getting stronger,” said Owens, who can’t run for governor again because of term limits. “The state of our state is strong.”
Owens said that employment in the state was expected to set a record this year, retail sales were strong and a job-friendly climate has made Colorado attractive to the high tech, aerospace and financial industries. Owens quoted from a speech President John F. Kennedy delivered in Pueblo, Colorado: “A rising tide lifts all boats.” He said that truth was at work in the state today.
San Diego has recognized the strength of Colorados economy, he said. The California citys Regional Economic Development Corp. ranked the Denver metro area as second in the nation for economic competitiveness, said Owens.
“Friends, the state of our state is indeed strong,” said Owens. “Last year, we took a critical step with the passage of Referendum C to stabilize Colorados budget,” he said. “The result is that Colorado will be able to recover from years of recession while keeping our taxes among the lowest in the country.”
Owens said that without passage of Referendum C, he would have used his speech today to outline proposals for more than $500 million in cuts next year. “Fortunately for the citizens of Colorado, thats not the case,” he said. “The voters gave us the revenue we need so that Colorado can recover from recession. Its now our duty to use these funds wisely.”

Mr. Sunshine makes it all sound so wonderful. He’s good at that. The economic reality is much different.
ProgressNow offers a more realistic assessment of what Owens talked about. Except they get specific and back up their numbers.
So is our state STRONG?
Of course our state is strong. It could totally kick another state’s butt.
Of course Colorado is strong, not only is it strong, it?s the greatest state there is. Anyone who doesn’t think so is a traitor. I am personally upset that we would even be compared to other states. Coloradans are the best smartest people in the country. God bless Colorado. It is also vitally important to recognize that Colorado is the only state where you are really truly free. This is Colorado for Christ sake! Freedom! Colorado? Fuck Yeah!
Colorado… you must be kidding. Truly free? Hmm do not say that to gay couples or to the poor in this state. Colorado is a great state to live but needs great help to make it the best state ever
Nevertheless, I agree with Lebowski993.
Colorado can kick your state’s butt.
I don’t know guys… I hear Wyoming has been thinking about invading since the DEMs took over the legislature.
If we elect Hick or Ritter, I’m pretty sure we can expect Wyoming National Guard soldiers patrolling the streets of Ft. Collins and Denver.
I’m sure this is something none of us want to see.
The WY National Guard is probably in the same state as all the rest of the Guard units: Iraq. It’s going to have to get permission to fly back so that it can kick our butts first.
Besides, even though we won’t have anyone tall leading the state, we’ll still be strong and able to kick the other states’ butts handily.
Hey, don’t forgot, the great state of Wyo has a DEM governor, so don’t worry about the invasion.

We will need protection for sure. What with all the cry baby pacifists we have in this state it would appear we are an easy target……..
Wyoming — where men are men, and sheep are nervous.
